In a significant step toward addressing the affordable housing crisis in Pomona, the Cesar Chavez Foundation unveiled Chris Hartmire Plaza, a 90-unit affordable housing community designed to serve low-income individuals, families, and veterans. This development integrates housing with on-site health and supportive services, aiming to create a holistic environment for its residents.
Chris Hartmire Plaza features a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom apartments, catering to households earning between 30% and 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI). Notably, the community includes units reserved for veterans, individuals with disabilities, and those experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The LEED-certified development underscores a commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency.
Manuel H. Bernal, president and CEO of the Cesar Chavez Foundation, emphasized the project’s alignment with the values of Cesar Chavez and Reverend Hartmire, stating, “Chris Hartmire Plaza reflects that enduring vision—linking housing, health, and hope for families in Pomona by creating a community where people feel seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.”
Pomona Mayor Tim Sandoval highlighted the project’s significance, noting that it “represents the best of what Pomona stands for—a city that believes in community, compassion, and opportunity.”
The opening of Chris Hartmire Plaza marks a proactive approach to the housing challenges faced by many in Pomona, providing not just shelter but a supportive community environment. As the city continues to grow, developments like this play a crucial role in ensuring that all residents have access to safe and affordable housing options.
